Film-maker, Archivist and Recorder of Cultural History and Knowledge, and Publisher, Lorraine Coppin with her partner, Michael Woodley, conceived and developed the Juluwarlu Group Aboriginal Corporation and Juluwarlu’s Archive, Language, Media and Cultural Centre in 2000. Over the past 20 years, Lorraine has created and coordinated Juluwarlu’s Cultural Mapping on Country projects, Women’s Culture and Language on Country Projects, undertaken the building of the nationally recognized Yindjibarndi Archive.
In 2017, Lorraine with senior YIndjibarndi Artists and Language workers conceived and developed the Nyinyart Yinda Water Arts Language and Cultural Futures Project, and established the Juluwarlu Artists Group and Guest Artist Mentors Residencies, field trips and camps that have resulted in exciting intergenerational creative arts experiences and new skills outcomes for more than 30 senior, new and emerging artists and school age children – including Painting New Ways, Stitched, Dyed and Printed Linen Artworks, Revival of women’s traditional weaving skills using grasses from Yindjibarndi country, JAGartists’ unique Yarranga Marni carved boards, Creation Story Sculptures and Artefacts, very large beautiful hand-painted heavy canvas floor mats that map Yindjibarndi country, interactive digital visual and bilingual cultural screens and tables, and giant Creation Story Performance Puppets made by school children and JAG artists for the opening of the Yindjibarndi Ganalili Cultural Centre in September 2019.
Creating her own artworks, Lorraine works in acrylic on large scale canvases and carves scratchboards.
